Simple Steps to Protecting your data

1. Back up your Data.  Backing up your data is the number one way to protect from data loss.  There are many different software and hardware solutions for data backup available on the market today.  Most software solutions are automated helping to simplify your backup process.

2.  Virus Protection.  To avoid destructive code from corrupting your data or "Trojans" from stealing sensative material it is imperative that all pc's keep current virus protection.  Your virus protection should be kept up to date to provide the maximum protection available.

3.  Surge Protection & Battery Backup Devices.  All computer and networking devices should be grounded and have surge protection.  A battery backup or UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) provides you time to protect your data during a power failure or brownout.  It is recommended for all computers and critical networking equipment. 

4.  Establish Network Security.  There are many advantages to a Security Policy.  Proper network security can prevent users from accidentally deleting, moving or renaming files.  Security permissions provide protection from accessing certain files and resources A firewall should be installed to prevent hackers from accessing your netwrk from the internet.

5. Provide Fault Tolerance.  Keeping a real time duplicate copy of your data enables you to quickly recover from a hardware failure as well as minimizing your company's down time.
